 Legian

Legian, while just to the north of Kuta Central has really just evolved to become a part of the Kuta scene, although it does have it’s unique characteristics, especially the further north you go. Read the Kuta page for a fuller description. At the other end of Legian is Seminyak.
Legian is a beachfront resort area, now with a paved walkway running the length of the beach. At first, we thought this would ruin Legian, but actually, it’s improved and enhanced the area, given it greater accessibility and reduced the time it took to walk from Legian to Kuta. The walkway runs between the beach and what were previously beachfront hotels. It’s a lovely place to walk, with virtually no hawkers, just the odd motorbike and great views and often a pleasant onshore breeze. It’s also now easy to walk to Seminyak and the clubs and restaurants that it’s renowned for.
Just past Hotel Jayakarta if you’re walking north are about half a dozen beach-facing restaurants which all have great food, great views and great lazy-Sunday atmospheres. This is where the ex-pats hang out and they’ve kept this place idyllic. Well, to me it is anyway.
In terms of distance, if you want to get to Tuban from Legian, it’s walkable but a taxi is fast, inexpensive and often a nicer alternative in the heat of the day.

Legian was the perfect base for our Bali Island stay. 5 mins from Kuta but without so much hussle and bussle. Great food and bars etc.

In May this year my partner took me to Bali for the very first time. I was apprehensive at 1st however immersed myself in the culture, people and the land .The experience was overwhelming with a humbling affect. We based ourselves in Legian at the Melasti Resort and I had the best holiday ever in my life. Being based centrally was perfect. Everything was a stones throw away either by walking or by the local transport. Bali has touched my heart and we are waiting and saving up again in anticipation for our next fix. A truly affordable holiday where you come home with a sense of fulfillment. I just hope people dont allow the bombings over previous years to affect their feelings on this beautiful place. I nearly did and if I had would have missed out on so much. The Oz attitide is great and they stand strong and continue to vacate there in their hoards and hold their heads high. **Bali may you grow and prosper and continue to stay true to yourself. **

Legian was perfect - slightly away from the main area, so you were a bit more sheltered. Great for shopping & the beach. The restaurants are fabulous & the food amazing!
