Why is it that so many people end up going back there time after time?
Well, I guess if you asked them, you'd get a whole variety of answers, but it is a special place and I'll run through some of the reasons why I love it and have been back there over 50 times and why I can't wait to get back there again.

The Swimming Pools… There's something indulgent about lounging around a lagoon shaped swimming pool, or sitting at the sunken pool bar with a cool breeze blowing through the coconut palms and the sun shining on a hot balmy afternoon.
The People… The Balinese are possibly the friendliest people you'll meet! They're polite, forever smiling and always welcoming. They've also a colourful culture based on peace, harmony and karma. Their ceremonies, music and art are unique to Bali. You won't find a more interesting culture!
The Scenery… Out of this world! From terraced rice paddies to the sandy palm-fringed beach disappearing off into the ocean mist. So many photo opportunities.

The Spas…Some of the best spas in the world are in Bali. Indulge!
The Shopping… Bali's such a great place for shopping and eating. Even an average kiwi can holiday like a king over there. Tailor made leather jackets, clothes, wooden carvings and just about everything locally made is dirt cheap compared to New Zealand prices.
Pictured is Muhammad, a watch seller in Seminyak. Bargain hard!
The Beaches… Even in the hottest days in New Zealand, it's still nippy getting in. Over there it's not.
Bali is famous for its surf beaches, namely Kuta, Uluwatu and Dreamlands (pictured) which face the west and to the east the beaches are protected by reefs so the water is calm. Lovina, on the north coast has a black sand beach.
I love Kuta beach the most. It's perfect for early morning walks, sunbathing and swimming during the day and looks beautiful all the time, at sunrise and during the stunning sunsets.

The Smells… Maybe it's the sweet aroma of Gudang Garam clove cigarettes or the frangipani fragrance that fills the air or the smell of incense sticks burning as an offering to their gods. I don't know what it is, but it's definitely Bali and its exotic composition gets me every time.
The Hotels… The infinity edged pools, the thatch roof bungalows and the extensive use of sand stone make some of Bali's top end resorts some of the best in the world and I love staying there or just having a look at an architectural work of art.
Pictured is the new Bulgari Resort, South Bali
The Food… I can eat the most delicious cuisine from all over the world in the finest of restaurants for a fraction of the price that it is in New Zealand. Fresh fruit is cheap - a chance to indulge in paw paw, mango, pineapple and fresh coconut milk.
A delightful array of dishes from Ku de ta, Seminyak.
And I could go on. For some, it's the Kuta atmosphere and nightlife. For surfers, it's the waves. For golfers, the perfectly manicured golf courses. Whatever it is, Bali's captured my heart and continually beckons me.

THE BEST SURF! Bali has over 20 world-class surfing breaks that have to be surfed to be believed! A "bad surf" in Bali is often better than the best day back home. There's always a head-high wave with off-shore winds on either the east or west coast (just 30 minutes drive apart). Add plush hotels, cheap food, hot sunny days and a party 365 nights a year, and Bali really is the world's best surfer's paradise. Full info on Bali Surfing at www.indosurf.com.au

Bali is a wonderful relaxing, friendly and safe place for a holiday. How many countries in the world can a women walk safely on the streets on her own after dark. The people, climate, culture, gardens, food, shopping and sea make it the best holiday destination. We have been many times with family and friends of all ages and everyone has loved their time in Bali. Can't wait till the next visit.

You can't go wrong with a place like Bali. I first travelled there as a young child with family and family friends - but have since returned all 'grownup' to experience the different side to Bali in my adulthood. Highlights for me would have to be the friendships you develop with the locals and their caring natures, Cheap SHOPPING (of course), The Monkey Forests (Its so neat being able to get up close, touch and feed them) , Yummy food for rock bottom prices! and to top it all off the scenery.. and Spa treatments are unbelievable!

Absolutely wonderful place. If you don't like hecklers don't come, that's the only negative I would say about Bali. Except I love the heckling, the bartering, the challenge of the whole shopping experience. The people, the sunbathing, the atmosphere and the night life is fantastic. Our most recent two trips to Bali were in 1998 when we got married, and 2003 when we went back for our 5 year anniversary. We'll be heading back soon for our 10 year wedding anniversary.

I hadn't been to Bali for about 7 years but nothing much had really changed. I took my partner there for the first time and he absolutely loved it, and the people there loved him. They kept asking me if he was my body guard. The people in Bali are so beautiful and friendly. The food is fabulous and the shopping is even better, I couldn't reccommend Bali enough, My partner proposed on my birthday while we were there so we are currently planning out honeymoon, and of course it is in Bali!!

We went with 30 friends to Bali last year for a 50th and had an absolute ball. The people are wonderful, the island beautiful. It was so fantastic we are all planning to go back April 2008, just now deciding where in Bali to go. They need and deserve our support.
